GILMAN’S FAUST NAMED TO USA CLASSIC TEAM |
PITTSBURGH – Mike Faust, a two-time Maryland state champion, from Gilman School has been selected to participate on the United States team in the 26th annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic scheduled for Saturday March 25 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House.
He will compete at 275 pounds.
Faust of Baltimore won 46 of 47 bouts as a junior to gain his second consecutive state championship. He was 49-3 as a sophomore. As a freshman, he won 11 of 13 bouts but did not compete in the state tournament.
Faust is a two-time champion in the National High School Open in Birmingham, Ala., a champion at the World Ironman Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., a champion at the Eastern Nationals in Scranton, Pa., a champion at the Southern Regionals in Salisbury, Md., and a co-champion at the Junior Olympics in Cleveland.
Faust is a three-time district champion and a champion at the National Preps in Bethlehem, Pa.
He also won the 1998 championship in the Mid Atlantic classic "Beast of the East."The Dapper Dan Classic, partially funded by UPMC Health System, benefits the boys and girls club of Western Pennsylvania.
The Wrestling classic, dubbed "The Rose Bowl of Wrestling," is the premier high school all-star dual meet in the United States.
The preliminary match will feature WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania) stars going against Nebraska’s best at 5:30 p.m.
The main event – Pennsylvania versus USA will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Pennsylvania leads the series 14-10-1.
