SHUFELT GETS USA CLASSIC NOD

 

PITTSBURGH –Travis Shufelt, a two-time Wisconsin state champion out of Oconto High School, has been selected to participate on the United States team in the 26th annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic scheduled for Saturday March 25 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House.

He will compete at 145 pounds.

In addition to his two Wisconsin state titles, Shufelt of Oconto, Wisc., palced fifth in the state tournaments as a freshman.

He went 38-0 last year to claim his second consecutive state championship. As a sophomore, Shufelt compiled a 35-1 record. Entering this season, he owned a 106-6 record.

Shufelt was a first-team All-conference member the past three year and was named conference Wrestler of the Year as a sophomore and junior. He was named first-team All-Area and the school’s Most Valuable Player.

He was a member of the Wisconsin Freestyle National Team the past three years and a WWF Freestyle state champion as a freshman and junior.

Shufelt also earned Academic All-state recognition.

The Dapper Dan Classic, partially funded by UPMC Health System, benefits the boys and girls club of Western Pennsylvania.

The Wrestling classic, dubbed "The Rose Bowl of Wrestling," is the premier high school all-star dual meet in the United States.

The preliminary match will feature WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania) stars going against Nebraska’s best at 5:30 p.m. The main event – Pennsylvania versus USA will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Pennsylvania leads the series 14-10-1.
