METZLER PICKED FOR USA TEAM IN CLASSIC

 

PITTSBURGH – Brad Metzler, a three-time state champion from Westside High School in Omaha, Neb., has been selected to participate on the United States team in the 26th annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic scheduled for Saturday March 25 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House.

He will compete at 130 pounds.

In addition to his three Nebraska state titles, Metzler is a four-time Nebraska freestyle state champion as schoolboy, Cadet and junior and a five-time Greco Roman state champion also as a schoolboy, Cadet and junior.

He was a member of Nebraska’s Cadet National Team in 1996 and 1997 and member of the Maine Exchange Team in 1997 and 1998.

Metzler went 32-0 in winning the 103-pound state tile as a freshman; 20-0 at 119 pounds as a sophomore and 34-0 as junior in winning the 125-pound state crown.

Among his many accomplishments, Metzler won a Cadet Greco-Roman national championship in July 1997; placed second at the Rocky Mountain Regional in Greco-Roman and Freestyle in 1999 at 132 pounds and was third in the FILA Jr. National Championship and World Team Trials in 1999.The Dapper Dan Classic, partially funded by UPMC Health System, benefits the boys and girls club of Western Pennsylvania.

The Wrestling classic, dubbed "The Rose Bowl of Wrestling," is the premier high school all-star dual meet in the United States.

The preliminary match will features WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania) stars going against Nebraska’s best at 5:30 p.m. The main event – Pennsylvania versus USA will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Pennsylvania leads the series 14-10-1.
