TWO-TIME OREGON STATE CHAMPION SELECTED TO DAPPER DAN CLASSIC U.S. TEAM |
PITTSBURGH – Two-time Oregon state champion Shane Webster of Crater High School, Central Point, Oregon, has been selected to wrestle at 171 pounds for the United States team in the 27th annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House.
Webster, a resident of Central Point, won 85 of 87 bouts in his sophomore and junior seasons, going 43-0 last year, in capturing his two Oregon titles. He went 35-4 as a freshman.
Webster is a two-time winner of the Reno Tournament of Champions, a two-time district champion, and a member of the All-Tournament team at the Kellogg Scholastic Duals in 1999.
Previously, heavyweight Steve Mocco of Blair Academy, Blairstown, N.J., Matt Nagel (152) of Frazee High School, Frazee, Minn.; and Marcus LeVesseur (145) of Bloomington-Kennedy High School in Minneapolis, Minn., were named to the U.S. squad.
The Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic, partially funded by UPMC Health System, benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania.
The Wrestling Classic, dubbed "The Rose Bowl of Wrestling," is the premier high school all-star dual meet in the United States.
The preliminary match will feature WPIAL stars going against Minnesota’s best at 5:30 p.m. The main event – Pennsylvania versus the USA will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Pennsylvania leads the all-time series 15-10-1.
