TWO-TIME OHIO STATE CHAMPION OTT TO BE SOLID FOR U.S. TEAM IN DAPPER DAN CLASSIC |
PITTSBURGH – Kyle Ott, a two-time Ohio state champion from St. Paris Graham High School, has been selected to wrestle at 112 pounds for the United States team in the 27th annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House.
Ott, a resident of Haber Heights, Ohio, entered this season with a 109-1 record, winning Ohio championships in 1999 and 2000, going 78-0 in doing so.
Ott was a 1999 champion in the Freestyle Cadet World Team Trial (50kilos) and was second in the junior nationals at 114.5 pounds. In 1998, he was the state Freestyle Cadet champion; champion at the Cadet World Team Trials; ninth at the Cadet World Championships at Manchester Great Britain at 48 kilos.
In 1997, Ott won the state Freestyle Cadet championship and was fifth in the Freestyle Cadet Nationals.
Ott placed third in Ohio at 103 pounds as a freshman in 1998, compiling a 31-1 record. He won the 103-pound title in 1999 and followed that by winning the 112-pound state championship last year.
The Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic, partially funded by UPMC Health System, benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania.
The Wrestling Classic, dubbed "The Rose Bowl of Wrestling," is the premier high school all-star dual meet in the United States.
The preliminary match will feature WPIAL stars going against Minnesota’s best at 5:30 p.m. The main event – Pennsylvania versus the USA will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Pennsylvania leads the all-time series 15-10-1.
