WRESTLE FOR U.S. TEAM IN DAPPER DAN CLASSIC

PITTSBURGH – Two-time New Jersey state champion Mark Manchio of Sterling High School has been selected to wrestle at 135 pounds for the United States team in the 27th annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House.

Manchio, a resident of Stratford, N.J., won 72 bouts without defeat in winning his two state titles in 1999 and 2000. He posted consecutive 36-0 seasons. Manchio was a New Jersey state runnerup as a freshman in 1998, going 32-2.

He is a three-time district champion and a three-time Region 8 champion. In addition, Manchio won the prestigious Beast of the East Tournament, considered the best in-season tournament in the United States, in 1999.

Manchio is joined on the U.S. team by three-time Ohio state champion Harry Lester of Cuyahoga Valley Academy (130), Shane Webster, a two-time Oregon state champion from Crater High School (171), Kyle Ott, a two-time Ohio state champion (112), heavyweight Steve Mocco, considered one of the best schoolboy wrestlers in the United States from Blair Academy in New Jersey, and Minnesota state champions Matt Nagel (152) and Marcus LeVesseur (145).

The Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic, partially funded by UPMC Health System, benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania.

The Wrestling Classic, dubbed "The Rose Bowl of Wrestling," is the premier high school all-star dual meet in the United States.

The preliminary match will feature WPIAL stars going against Minnesota’s best at 5:30 p.m. The main event – Pennsylvania versus the USA will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Pennsylvania leads the all-time series 15-10-1.

Tickets for the Wrestling Classic are $12 for reserved seats and $8 for general admission.
